English Program Teacher's - Roger Guzman

Roger Guzman

HELLO MATES !!!

My name is ROGER GUZMAN.  I am from Monteria, Colombia. In 1986, I arrived in Medellin after finishing my High school studies in the Atlantic coast. In the year 1993, I got my BH in Languages from the School of Education at Universidad de Antioquia.  Since then on, I have been working as an English teacher for different institutions in the city, UPB, Universidad de Medellin, Universidad National de Colombia and ITM, among others.  In the Year 2008, I finished my Postgraduate studies at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana where I received my degree as an EFL Instructor.  As an English teacher, I have taught different subjects, being Contrastive Grammar and Academic Writing the most common of all.

I consider myself somewhat serious and shy, but not unsociable whatsoever. Once students and people get to know me, they know that I am a very easygoing person, sociable and understanding.

Apart from being an English teacher, I have got other three passions, they are more than just a free time activity; in fact, they really keep my life moving:  British Culture, Rock Music and Football.  I feel very close to everything that is related with the United Kingdom – History, culture, literature, people and their customs.  Also, I am really mad about ROCK MUSIC, its history and development; I love all kind of genders, bands and musicians, especially if they come from UK.  Altogether with British Culture and Rock music, football plays a very important role in my life. I love watching International football; I am a die-hard fan of RIVER PLATE from Argentina. In fact,, I am part of a Club of a River Plate supporters in Medellin.

Well, that is a little piece of information about me, if you want to know more about me and my British-like life style, you can find me in Facebook as THE FRAGILE REPTILE.

English Program Teacher's - Sara Valderrama

SARA VALDERRAMA.

Greetings Everyone!

My name is Sara Isabel Valderrama Zapata, I´m a Lawyer from the University of Medellín and I have two majors, one in Customs Law and the other in Social Security.

Currently, I´m working at “the Free Trade Zone” in Rionegro. It´s a very interesting job, with a different challenge for every single day.

In 1998, I lived for a year in Washington State, in a small town called “Battle Ground” during an exchange program. Although it is very cold and it rains too much, the Pacific Ocean is very beautiful and it has spectacular sites and places to visit.

From the year 2000, I started teaching English at different institutes, at the UPB and now I´m very happy teaching here at the University.  I have also some teaching experience in Law classes. I consider teaching the best way to keep in touch with topics that you are interested in and that want to stay updated. Feel that you can pass on your knowledge to others, is priceless! And also, is that students learn to love language as much as we do.

About my hobbies, well I live a quiet life. I enjoy practicing a sport, jog or walk. I love going to the movies, the theater or new restaurants. I also like to spend time at home with my family and friends, sleep and read when I have the time and most of all, I really enjoy traveling.

English Program Teacher's - Johan Gutiérrez

Johan Gutiérrez

Hi I'm Johan Gutiérrez, I'm from Colombia, I got my degree on translation from the U.de A. in 2007, but before that, I studied philosophy for a couple of years here. I've taught in some other places such as the AVC, Colmayor and the teacher's school. I'm a relaxed easy going person, some people say I 'm a little weird but I'm sure it is not that much... I love playing basketball and playing the guitar too, I really like teaching here because of the diversity of ideas you find at this University.

English Program Teacher's - Ivan Dario Herrera Carvajal

Ivan Dario Herrera Carvajal

Hi everyone, my name’s Ivan Dario Herrera Carvajal

Well, the story goes that, I’m a Professional in Languages, I graduated in 1997 from the School of Languages at U de A, and since then I’ve worked as an English teacher for several universities such as U de M, UCC, El Poli, ITM and of course my true loved U de A. I joined the English Program in 2007.

Let me say that I have the perfect job. Being a teacher – playing the role of a guide for those who are eager to discover the world and knowledge around them by themselves, so they can recreate it and reformulate it - is what, I guess, I was made for, and I do enjoy it.

I consider myself as a very passionate, sociable, friendly, hard-working, motivating, helpful, optimistic and kind person. I really enjoy socializing and meeting new people. I very interested in history, science, the evolution of species. I spend my time watching TV programs about these subjects. I also like listening to heavy metal, going to the cinema and watching sports for example: NFL, NBA, F1, NASCAR, MotoGP, and soccer)
